I had the most amazing time earlier this week at the V&A. Awesome time at Hampton Court Palace yesterday. A truly bittersweet but wonderful visit with [ profile] myladyswardrobe, [ profile] edmndclotworthy and their baby, Bilbo. I was able to get some photographs that I believe will be very helpful in my research as well as helping others. I got to see the awe in Arilyn's face as she took in everything we experienced at the V&A, seeing The Bostocke Sampler, one she had only ogled in photos before. A lot of good moments, great memories, and yeah there are those photos.

There were a few negatives during the trip though, but nothing that derailed it completely. Managed to deal with a stupid Tom Tom that had a broken power cord and had to constantly be fiddled with to keep it running. Got stuck in traffic so bad that people were getting out of their cars and laying out on their hoods and roofs to get a tan and had to completely reschedule our HCP trip to another day. Hotel had no AC and a horribly lumpy bed with flat pillows. Aside from any of those annoyances, however, I had a wonderful, wonderful time.

Then I got word that Brian wrecked my 84 Jag this morning on his way to work. If they had hauled him off in an ambulance I could at least be worried about him, but as it is I feel like I just hit a brick wall. You know, the one you don't see because you are so busy looking at the beautiful roses. Whatever. My baby, my precious. And no, this was not an accident caused by someone else. It was caused by HIM. And the brakes that I told him to fix? Yeah, he never got around to it. I just want to cry.

You had a Jag older than my kid brother? Wow! Interesting choice for an runnabout in W.Cornwall.

Sorry it's bitten the dust.

Hope you other half's out of hospital soon enough for you to have his gusts for garters.

What state was the car in before the prang, and what model was it? Some were AFAIK fairly infamous for rusting in coastal areas.

Well, firstly, he was most definitely not in the hospital. He walked away quite easily from the accident. He rear ended a vehicle in a turn. Period. Other vehicle was bigger and tougher and had no damage. My 1984 Xj6, on the other hand, will most likely require a new bonnet hood, new front grille and new front bumper. There is also some damage where the bumper impacted the body, just beneath the lights. The car was not kept here in Cornwall for the past 25 years, being originally purchased in Chelmsford and then kept in and around London and surrounding environs since then, up until just over a year ago. I bought the car in December with the intention of taking it home to America with me in two months. Now I am not so sure if she will be making the trip. We are assessing the damage and checking with the garage. My last car, well, the car before I bought the Volvo which was purely for practical reasons in the first place, was my 1962 Mercedes. My lovely ex had it crushed when we got divorced. Turns out that when he gave it to me for my birthday he put the title in his name, and he managed to wind up with legal control over it. I forgave him for a lot of things, but what he did to my car....not so much.

Oh, I see you have a passion for classic motors then.

I hope you can make it good again. And I misread the sentence with the word ambulance in it, too. Sorry.

I'm really sorry to hear about your car.

What on earth is a Tom Tom?

A satnav system that goes in your car. The stupid cord broke, not our fault it was broken when we picked it up, but we did not realize it. The recreation department on the naval base owns a lot of them, and they let the sailors use them for trips around the country here.
